Graduate School of Engineering Dean Nobufumi Nakamura visits Indonesian educational and research institutions

On February 18 (Tue.) and 19 (Wed.), Nobufumi Nakamura Graduate School of Engineering, Director; Hirotaka Saito, Professor (Institute of Agriculture, Councilor); Masafumi Hirano, Professor (Graduate School of Engineering, Councilor); Masafumi Yohda, Professor (COI-NEXT Project Leader); Kenta Umebayashi, Professor (Graduate School of Engineering International Exchange, Committee Chair); Wuled Lenggoro, Professor (Graduate School of Engineering, Head of Department of Systems and Chemical Engineering and former Head of Department of Chemical Systems Engineering); and Yukiko Horikiri Associate Professor (Organization for the Advancement of Education and Global Learning) visited Indonesia to strengthen cooperation with educational and research institutions.
On February 18, they visited the National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) and the National Agency for Education Fund Management (LPDP) under the jurisdiction of Indonesia's Ministry of Finance to exchange views on cooperation in study abroad, including government scholarships for Indonesian students, with Dr. Handoko, Director General of BRIN, as well as human resource development and International Exchange. The direct meeting with Dr. Handoko, Director General of BRIN, and other staff members involved in human resource development and was an important milestone in the promotion of future exchanges.
On the morning of February 19, the group visited the University of Indonesia (UI) headquarters and the University of Indonesia Faculty of Engineering (FTUI). At the headquarters, we discussed with Prof. Sudibandriyo and others at Vice-President the enhancement of student exchange through the Double Degree Program (DDP), in addition to the long-standing collaboration with Faculty of Engineering. At Faculty of Engineering, we also met with Dr. Kusuma, Acting Academic Deputy Director General, Dr. Sahlan, Manager of Cooperation and Entrepreneurship Faculty of Engineering and PhD student at the University Associate Professor, and Dr. Susanto, Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, to share the direction to continue strengthening student exchange. Details of the internship program, scheduled to begin in April 2026, were also confirmed.
In the afternoon of the 19th, Prof. Horikiri Associate Professor and Prof. Lenggoro gave an introductory lecture to 110 undergraduate students of the Department of Chemical Engineering. In his lecture, he explained about study abroad options and future career development at TUAT, and students actively asked questions. In parallel, Prof. Umebayashi interacted with Prof. Udhiarto, Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering, and many other professors and students interested in studying at TUFS. 19 evening, he had dinner with Prof. Hermansyah of UI's new President and Prof. Kurniawan of new FTUI studies Deputy Director General to get acquainted. Prof. Hermansyah and Prof. Kurniawan, the new FTUI academic .
Through this visit, we were able to further deepen our cooperation with Indonesian educational and research institutions and expand the possibilities for student exchange. We will continue to build on our ongoing cooperative relationship.
